As part of the old Masterclass programme we have started staff training in Academy in both PowerPoint and Word. We have about 13 signed up for each course. I am onto week 4 in the word course and the staff are finally getting used to the text books which tend to be very step by step in fact almost baby step by baby step. I think the staff are enjoying the opportunity to sit for 1.5 hours with nothing to concentrate on except their course. How has everyone else who is doing Academy found it?

A couple of years ago CGS invested in a number of IWBs - at the time I was a bit sceptical about the value for money as I thought that most teachers would use them in a non-interactive way - 2 years on I still feel the same although a number of departments are using them very well to lecture from. Last yeat due to the evangelical ranting by Ian Stuart in Islay we purchased a class pad as an alternative. The class pad is now in the English department on trial to see if it does as good a job but at a fraction of the cost - watch this space for updates
